BLACK EYED CHILDREN

It could begin with non-stop knocking on your front door or the incessant ringing of your doorbell. You may even hear little voices saying, “We won’t hurt you. This won’t take long. Please let us in.” Your best course of action would be NOT to open the door.

These voices are of the Black Eyed Children (also known as Black Eyed Kids) easily-identifiable with coal-black eyes (no whites or irises), paler-than-normal skin tone, strange clothing, odd haircuts, probably between the ages of 6-16. Reports are usually of pairs of kids or a small group although lone children have also been seen.

Often, they ask for a drive or want to be let inside your house and have robotic-sounding voices. Witnesses report feeling strangely mesmerized by these children, followed by intense dread and panic.

They are definitely paranormal in nature (in that they cannot be scientifically or logically explained) and sometimes referred to as an urban legend. Or are they?

Urban legends can only be labelled as such if they cannot be traced to a certain person, place or time. This is not the case as far as the black eyed kids are concerned. Sightings and encounters date back to the early 1950’s and many eyewitnesses have come forward to report their incidents.

You may be reading this thinking, “I have never heard of this!”, but there have been many reported encounters around the world, including Canada, and more notably the east coast (Bible Hill, NS in 2016 and St. John, NB in 2015).

Some witnesses experience negative effects afterwards, such as nervousness, sleep disturbances and general symptoms of having experienced a traumatic event.

Local Connections:

A woman encountered a small group of these children in an empty parking lot in Bible Hill, Nova Scotia. The creepy kids had joined hands and were singing a kid’s song. They disappeared into thin air when she briefly looked away.
A woman in St. John, New Brunswick sensed someone was looking in through her window. When she drew the curtain back, a young teenage boy with the telltale black eyes was there, saying “Let me in!” She frantically called her neighbor but the kid was gone by the time he arrived.

Although you can find many reports online of the Black Eyed Children, here are a few examples:

- A journalist sitting in his car was approached by two older black-eyed kids who tried to get in his vehicle and were insisting they needed a lift home.

- A black eyed kid walked into a hair salon and asked a lady getting her hair cut for her car keys. (her teenager was waiting for her in the car) She refused and the b.e.k. went out to the car and said to the lady’s daughter, “You must let me in.” Terrified, she locked the car doors and ducked down to hide, and shortly thereafter the b.e.k. disappeared.

So who or what are these kids?

Although the black eyed kids phenomenon shares characteristics of other unexplained beings (ghosts, aliens, inter-dimensional beings, etc.) no one has been able to say definitively what they are. Like most paranormal topics, the mystery continues.

Maybe you have already encountered one…?

  2. Hi I had something similar happen to me. I was wandering around outside around 10 pm and it was already dark. Before approaching a local tim hortons I saw a white truck and there was a man beside white with black hair. He was sort of peeking from behind a part of the building slightly hiding away. I ran into the tim hortons as soon as I could.
